Emergency services rushed to a 3-vehicle crash in Ryde last night (Friday), in which a car allegedly being driven with no lights on collided with 2 parked cars, but Police have said that no offences were committed.
As previously reported by Island Echo, a black Toyota Aygo was seen driving at speed, with no lights on, down Weeks Road at just before 21:30.
The Toyota then smashed into a parked silver Hyundai i20, which in turn shunted forwards into a Ford Transit van – near the junction with Alfred Street.
The driver of the Japanese vehicle, left the scene shortly after the crash with it suggested that they were ‘under the influence’.
Despite this, Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary has confirmed that no arrests have been made and no injuries were reported.

No offence’s were committed are you taking the piss ..?or police can’t be arsed to sort it out? so all involved have to go through their insurance costing them more and 5 years of hell having to tell them even though it’s not their fault..whats the bloody point of police .
What a joke response.
Leaving the scene of an accident is an offence.
Only if there were casualties, or potential casualties involved. Otherwise someone accidentally hitting anything could potentially have to sit and wait hours for police to attend what could be a minor scrape.
As the driver ran off, who is to sasy he wasn’t injured?
As you can see this wasn’t a minor scrape either.
Spot on. Driving into another car is pretty questionable too. But on the Isle of Wight, apparently, that’s legal.
Only if you manage to roll one
No offences have been committed, really?
Looking at that crash, i think a least speeding was the cause.
Was it a copper driving,no offences, made leaving the scene, speeding and no lights ???
“No offences were committed” – so didn’t leave the scene of the accident where damage had been caused, didn’t drive without lights after dark, wasn’t over the DD limit.
Oh, good.
I see idiots driving on the Downs in thick fog or rain with no lights on, I don’t know what they are teaching them these days or if they are just thick . .
Oakwood, totally agree with you but can partially help answer you, a white car came at me on the downs road in fog with no lights and stupid speed, guess what, it was a driving school / instructor
There is no traffic law on the island.
Vehicles speed erratically everyday in all
weather conditions – would never happen in the
real world.
The big smoke drive more than 20mph and you will
pay for your crimes.
On the lawless island drive at 80mph and fcu
all gets done!
Absolutely not right? Driving at speed no lights on fleeing the scene. How is that not illegal?
Maybe more to this than meets the eye???
Have police said that “no offences were committed” If so, I would challenge that. It may be the case that no one is being charged with any offences but that does not mean none were committed. How can you drive a car with no lights ag=fter dark, crash into two other vehicles then abscond making no attempt to report the accident all without a single offence being committed – it is a legal nonsense to say such a thing.
No charges…..
1 car smashed into 2 other cars, of which the 2 cars were not occupied.. The drive who caused the crash ran away. But no charges.
I know the island seam to have there own laws but !!!!!
How will the other 2 car owners be able to claim on there car insurance.
So driving at speed with no lights on ,crashing into two parked cars and then fleeing the scene and possibly under the influence and then the police claiming no offences were made !!
What a joke. So if someone had been injured may have made an difference in the situation?!
There are just no words , if it wasn’t so absurd it would be a laughing case
This country needs a good shake up and especially the police , getting paid for what , to take a few notes and a slap on the wrist .
Absolutely unbelievable
Come on folks surely you don’t expect Donna’s donkeys to actually do their jobs
Maybe an unoccupied car with a faulty handbrake.
No not that amount of damage and the place it happened.Police are pathetic if car insured they would know the address of owner its all bollocks.
With a capital B
