A 41-year-old man who walked into the sea to evade Police last Saturday will face no further action after being arrested over an incident that allegedly occurred in Sandown earlier that day.
As first reported by Island Echo, Police, HM Coastguard and Ryde Inshore Rescue all responded to the area surrounding Ryde Pier on Saturday afternoon when a male, carrying a bag of alcohol and wearing fishing waders, was seen to be walking waist-deep in the sea back and forth under the pier structure.
The male was eventually pulled out of the sea and arrested on suspicion of using violence to secure entry to a premises. This related to a domestic incident in Sandown that had been reported to Police.
Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary has now confirmed that the individual has been released from custody and no further action is being taken.
It is thought that Saturday’s incident cost the taxpayers thousands of pounds with the mobilisation of 2 Coastguard Rescue Teams, a lifeboat and numerous Police officers.

how about wasting police time – attention seeking loser
How about keeping your ill thought out rants to yourself, you pathetic keyboard warrior
how about ignoring time wasting losers like that and then they will soon realise no one cares and they will either sort their selves out, or we won’t hear from them again – either way, win win
Did he ask them? – No . This is problem now days, you struggle to contact police ,mostly they try and deflect call or they go over the top and deploy everything leaving potentially nothing for other emergency calls !. Car accidents – either take over an hour to respond then send 4/5 units blocking road in process after other emergency services -fire/ Ambulance etc have sorted incident, often recovery truck arrives before police.( It’s not attending units fault,it’s way control room deploy, time etc )
Thank you for your expert contribution to this discussion, former Chief Inspector Freddie.
Yes, that was sarcasm.
correct freddie – they practically deploy the entire force to face painting, rainbow displays and almost send in an armed response unit in five minutes, if someone dares to use the wrong pronoun on twitter – but a real crime, ooh no, too risky for them, deflect the call, make an excuse.
So he can go back to wading with his bag of booze and be left alone this time?
And cost nothing!
Another that seems was arrested before police had any evidence,2nd this week. If he wanted to play in water that’s his right, so many resources used and no charge.
Seems like wading through water is not a crime after all. How bizarre.
