Mr Phelps has today said:

“I have been Chairman for 7 years and although there is never a right time to go, I am approaching 75 and I felt I should go before I start nearing 80.

“It has been a privilege to be Chairman of Newport Football Club and I have enjoyed every minute, making a lot of friends. My only regret is that we did not get promoted back to the Southern League whilst I was Chairman. This is now an opportunity for someone new to come in and take the club forward. I will however remain an enthusiastic supporter from the touchline”.
