Newport IW and newly promoted Cowes Sports meet at Beatrice Ave, home of East Cowes Vics for tonight’s final which is outgoing manager Steve Brougham’s last game in charge before stepping down from the role.
The fixture is likely to be a fiery one, with both teams fighting for bragging rights and both eager to lift the Gold Cup, a trophy which Newport have won 37 times and Cowes Sports 11 respectively.
Cowes manager Richie Woodburn will no doubt have his team motivated after last weekend’s confirmed promotion to the Sydenhams Wessex League Premier division next season. Newport will be lifted by the news that Andy Samson has been appointed as new incoming manager and the players will want to impress as he watches on tonight from the stands.
The last time these two teams clashed, it was a heated match as two Newport players were sent off and a huge fight broke out resulting in a match official being pushed to the ground; Cowes went on to knock Newport out of the Hampshire Senior Cup.
Kick off this evening will be at 19:30 and fans are encouraged to try and arrive early to avoid delays. GKN have kindly offered their car park for extra parking.
