Popular Sandown attraction, Browns Golf Course, could be set to reopen after new tenants picked up the keys to the historic venue yesterday (Monday).
Kate Scandrett from Shanklin posted photos of the well-loved side on the Sandown Hub Facebook group yesterday, commenting that the ‘hard work’ is set to begin.
It comes after the site closed in September of last year, with the Isle of Wight Council unable to secure new tenants for the lease – which was for an unknown period of time. More than 3,000 people signed a petition in a bid to save it.
Uncertainty about the viability of a business at the course and cafe was rife due to it being situated in a development area, with rumours of a possible regeneration of the area being floated.
A reopening date for Browns – which originally opened in 1932 and features two 18-hole full courses – is yet to be announced.

Good news for a change childhood memories for many islanders good luck for the future
goodd news for Sandown at last.
Good luck to you both, i looked at this business about 10 years ago when the lease was available. Unfortunately it is a bottomless pit and will not make money . Tell
me one golf course on the island that does not struggle.
Great news goodluck, great place to bring kids as short golf is where practice is the best step up to proper course. Be good to have some shorter clubs for juniors, some coaching and maybe nets. Will be bringing my grandson as soon as you open, as it is less intimidating and relaxed. Wish you every success.
thats good news. It is starting to look rough so will be a nice site again. good luck new owners
I do hope they can make a success of it and they have a cast iron agreement in place.
Good luck with your new venture. Suggestion, have a good alarm system installed which will make the place more secure.
I miss those lovely cream doughnuts.
