Long-time supporter Russell Byrne will be taking over from John Simpkins for the 2015/16 season.
After thinking long and hard about the position, Russell decided to approach the club and offer his services. He said:
“As I have been a fan of the club for 36 years and have an avid interest in local football, I thought that it would be nice to help the club out and offer my services as secretary”.
Outgoing secretary John Simpkins will stay on and offer support to Russell and assist where possible.
Chairman David Hayles was delighted with the announcement:
“I’m pleased that Russell has come forward to represent Newport as Club Secretary. It’s an important role, but also a great privilege. He will be working alongside our new manager Andy Sampson for the upcoming season. I’m sure the Supporters Trust would echo my thoughts in thanking John for faithfully carrying out this position for the past few years and for offering to assist Russell into the new role.”
