The Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance and numerous other emergency services have been called to a medical emergency on the banks of the River Medina in Newport this morning (Monday).
The Isle of Wight Ambulance Service is in attendance just off Riverway, alongside Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service and HM Coastguard.
It is believed the casualty became unwell whilst on a boat and has been assisted across the mud by members of the public to Medina Riverside Park.
1 fire appliance, a rescue tender and the Water Rescue unit – all from Newport – are on scene alongside Coastguard Rescue Teams from Bembridge and Ventnor.
The Air Ambulance has landed at the nearby helipad at St Mary’s Hospital and the HEMS crew have been transported to the scene. The Isle of Wight Ambulance Service also has a paramedic crew, an enhanced care team and an operational commander in attendance.
The incident began shortly after 10:00.
UPDATE @ 11:00 – Emergency services are beginning to stand down from the incident but the situation remains ongoing with medics – including flying doctors – tending to the casualty.
At least 1 member of the public, who assisted with the rescue operation, has been given first aid by Coastguards for a foot injury sustained.
UPDATE @ 11:30 – The patient, a male, has been conveyed the short distance to St Mary’s Hospital after suffering a cardiac arrest.
Island Echo understands that 2 members of the public helped pull the casualty ashore before CPR was commenced.
