Yet another yellow weather warning for heavy rain has been issued for the Isle of Wight, with up to 50mm expected in some areas tomorrow (Thursday).
Forecasters at IW Met Service say that persistent spells of rain will move across the Island during the early hours of Thursday morning, becoming heavy at times with some locally torrential downpours mixed in during the afternoon.
20-30mm of rainfall is likely across a fairly wide area, with localised totals up to 40-50mm.
The warning is valid from 05:00 tomorrow morning until 17:00 tomorrow afternoon (Thursday 16th November 2023).
The Isle of Wight has seen significant amounts of rainfall in recent weeks meaning the ground is still very saturated, so just 15-20mm of rainfall can potentially lead to flooding.
Jamie Russell, Chief Forecaster at IW Met Service, says:
“Some of the computer models hint that the bulk of the rain could move to the south of the Island, so we will keep a close eye on the situation and adjust the warning as necessary”.
Islanders are warned of the risks of flash flooding in the usual prone locations, with surface water widely on roads and footpaths. Further flooding of low-lying land is expected as there is a risk of rivers breaching their banks once again.
