Emergency services have been called to a crash on Middle Road near Calbourne this morning (Wednesday).
The incident is said to have occurred on Calbourne Road, between Carisbrooke and Calbourne, at just before 07:05.
Island Echo is told that just 1 vehicle – an MG ZR – has been involved and has collided with a bank. The driver is trapped as a result.
Members of the public have stopped to assist those involved ahead of the arrival of Police, fire and ambulance crews.
The road is blocked in both directions half way between Betty Haunt and Pump Lane, near to Swainston Manor and to the east of the ‘tunnel of trees’.
Motorists should divert locally via Forest Road.
UPDATE @ 07:30 – A number of emergency crews are now on scene including 2 fire appliances from Newport.
Police, fire and ambulance are working together to free and treat the injured party.
An air ambulance has not been requested at the incident, indicating any injuries sustained can be dealt with on a local level.
Southern Vectis advises that Route 7 buses are not able to serve Newbridge, Calbourne or Swainston. Your nearest stops will be Carisbrooke High Street or Wellow Road (Ningwood Station).
UPDATE @ 09:10 – It’s understood that the road has now re-opened.
The driver of the car has been taken to St Mary’s Hospital with injuries.
Why do people who live on island want these high performance cars? With our roads and drivers it can get you into trouble. Having said that i hope the driver is not badly hurt,
An MG zr is hardly a “high performance” car!
Of course its not in the Ferrari class, but it is described by motor mags as a hot hatch. Anyway i still hope the driver makes a full recovery
The trouble is that just about any modern family car can do 100mph, that’s 30mph above the UK’s max speed limit. The big question, however, is why are so many vehicles taking to the hedge when no other vehicle is involved ? I know what my moneys’ on.
Speeeeeeeeeeeeeeding!!!! Again.
Oh do enlighten us JHVF. Perhaps you should change your name to Know it all. Were you there? Are you a road expert? Once again it’s all the usual smug, derisory, assuming comments on here. It was icy this morning. Perhaps an animal shot out. Mechanical issues. Who knows. It might have been silly driving. Might have been an inexperienced driver. The only fact is that we do not know as we were not there. How about just being glad the person is alive and hopefully not too injured. And be thankful it was not you involved and then having silly comments written about what was no doubt a very scary situation.
Hope they get out safely and make a quick recovery
Another day at the office, Another crash will be along soon…..and plenty of the usual excuses from the snowflakes.
These speeding banks, always getting in the way
More bad driving on the I o w
This road seems to be in the press a lot with crashes
