From today (Thursday) there is more space, more cardio equipment, more resistance machines and more weights for users of the refurbished zone at 1Leisure Medina – formerly known as Medina Leisure Centre. The Tone Zone has increased in size from 250 square metres to 510 square metres.
As part of the improvements, the café at the centre has been converted into a bespoke ‘Cyclone’ indoor cycling studio.
The overall cost of the project, which has been funded from the council’s capital budget, is £880,000.
Executive member responsible for recreation and leisure, Councillor Shirley Smart, said:
“I am delighted we have been able to invest in these major improvements to the Tone Zone. It means existing users will be able to benefit from more space and far better facilities and hopefully it will encourage many new users to get involved.
“In recent years the council has made significant investment in facilities at our leisure centres across the Island – and with these new improvements at the Tone Zone we are continuing to demonstrate our ongoing commitment to the health and wellbeing of Island residents.
“The council’s leisure facilities play a vital role in the health and wellbeing of our population; the ongoing investments mean that – in these difficult financial times – they are operating with ever decreasing subsidies and with the aim of becoming financially self-sustaining. It means ongoing capital investment in these facilities to benefit our current users and to attract new people, makes absolute sense.”
