The incident occurred on Carisbrooke Road near Cedar Hill at around 10:30.
Island Echo understands that the male pedestrian slipped, resulting in his leg going under the wheels of the passing lorry.
The 36-year-old has sustained a significant injury to his ankle and is believed to have been taken to a mainland hospital for specialist treatment.
A spokesperson for Hampshire Constabulary has told Island Echo:
“We were called following an incident involving a pedestrian and a lorry on Carisbrooke Road, Newport, at around 10.30am on August 12.
“The 36-year-old man suffered a fractured ankle and was taken to hospital”.

Island echo first for news? Only 24 hours later
It was an incredibly busy day yesterday, so apologies this story wasn’t reported straight away. We received information late in the day and placed an enquiry with Police last night.
Unfortunately, it does take sometime for statements to come back. This provided exact details of the incident and we published this article shortly after this statement was received.
We were still first to report this story – with other news sources following our lead as always.
That’s fine as least we get the news
Busy doing weather warnings!!!
That never happen!!
I’m surprised there’s not a warning as it’s going to rain tomorrow!!
On another note I really hope the person is ok. And they find the the lorry????
Disappointing unnecessary comment, I can only assume that you were the school boy bully and always the pessimist, your finger effort in typing you pathetic comment would have served better and kinder wishing the injured man and his family your deepest thoughts at this traumatic time.
Hi Darren
Read the end of my comment it says I really hope the chap is ok
Next time Darren think!!
I really do hope that the find the lorry and the man is OK
