The identity of a man found stabbed to death on a living room sofa in Ryde on Monday has been confirmed as that of 46-year-old Jolyon Wray.
As first reported by Island Echo, Police were called to Leavington House on East Hill Road at around 16:00 on Monday afternoon following a 999 call. Officers arriving at the scene – just yards from a local primary school – discovered Mr Wray’s body in a basement flat.
It has been confirmed today (Wednesday) that Mr Wray was stabbed in the back once with a knife that penetrated through into his chest cavity, leading to his death.
A murder investigation led by the Hampshire Constabulary Major Investigation Team is fully underway. A 53-year-old woman has been arrested on suspicion of murder and is currently in police custody.
The family, who are being supported by specialist officers, has asked for privacy at this very difficult time.
Officers have now left the scene in Ryde and have removed a cordon surrounding the property.
An inquest into the death has been opened and adjourned by Isle of Wight coroner Caroline Sumeray until 13th December.
