A 27-year-old man who was arrested following an alleged ‘hammer attack’ in Shanklin on Saturday night has been released on bail pending further Police enquiries.
The incident was the 2nd of 3 that Police attended at the Roseglen Hotel in Shanklin over the weekend, as previously reported by Island Echo.
The incident, on Palmerston Road, left a man in his 30s with head injuries and he was taken to hospital for treatment.
Police, Fire and Ambulance crews were all called to the scene and the incident was deemed so serious that detectives from Newport CID were called in alongside an acting inspector.
It has been confirmed this morning that the 27-year-old suspect, from Shanklin, who was arrested on suspicion of Section 18 grievous bodily harm with intent has been released on bail. He was also arrested on suspicion of affray, theft of a motor vehicle, driving without insurance and driving a motor vehicle otherwise than in accordance with a licence.
A 32-year-old man from Wootton, who was arrested on suspicion of assaulting a person thereby occasioning them actual bodily harm, at the same address the following morning, has also been bailed. It comes after a woman in her 20s had been assaulted, sustaining minor injuries.

Arrested for 5 offences, of which one of them is deadly serious and carries a long prison sentence, but let out to roam the streets by the fantastic thinking IW police.
As usual you comment without knowing how our justice system works. In this type of incident its the CPS who makes the decision on whether someone is remanded, bailed or released no further action. As if the Police purposefully want to let this criminal stroll out the door.
Couldn’t put it better myself but you always get one keyboard warrior who has all the answers.
I don’t pretend to have all the answers, but considering you don’t me you are quick to judge me as a keyboard warrior haha wind your neck in pal.
You need to calm down before you fall off your chair.
As usual?
And how long have you worked in the justice system? I was under the impression the custody sergeant made the decision to bail or not, the courts made the decision to remand or release and the cps made the decision as to charge the offender or not, or is that not the case?
Police don’t have a say any more it’s all up to the CPS there say yes or no then the courts can say more time if there need it it’s all f… Up now police have only one power and that’s to be bullies
Thanks for the clarification on that Sam.
Temper, temper. Tut tut.
