A male in distress on Culver Down prompted a response from Police, HM Coastguard and the RNLI during the early hours of this morning (Saturday).
Police responded to the East Wight beauty spot alongside Coastguard Rescue Teams from Bembridge and Ventnor when it was reported that a person was close to the cliff edge.
The assistance of Bembridge RNLI was also requested, with the inshore lifeboat launching at around 04:50.
However, it was soon confirmed that the male had been located and was safe and well with the Police.
The incident was brought to a close and teams were stood down. The Bembridge Inshore Lifeboat was rehoused by 05:15.

Had he just got his electric bill?
He may be safe but if he was in distress he certainly wasn’t well
The young man mentioned in this article is very close to myself, he is really struggling with his mental health at the moment, numerous “cries for help” are have largely gone ignored or untreated due to council cut backs in services, which whilst upsetting was and remains a concern is not a surprise, those of us close to this young man and he himself are fighting hard to get him the help and treatment he so dearly needs and we hope the struggles won’t be too much for him to bare. I would also personally would like to thank the police and other agencies involved during this episode who saved him from a possibly fatal mental break.
