Spring is nearly here – and so are lots of theatre treats for Island audiences.
South Wight Youth Theatre present a stage version of the well-loved book ‘Little Women’ at Bembridge Village Hall. There are 2 performances at 14:30 and 19:30 on Saturday 19th March – please come along to support these talented youngsters.
Another talented group of young people, Curtain Call Creative, will be bringing you ‘Made in Dagenham’ from 25th-27th March. They will be gracing the stage at the Medina Theatre and tickets are available at the theatre’s website at http://www.medinatheatre.co.uk or by calling 01983 823884.
While there, you can also book your tickets for another great show: following on from the success of ‘Matilda’ and ‘Peter Pan’ last year, TheatreTrain bring you all the gruesome fun of the stage show ‘The Addams Family’ from 12th April.
‘Orpheus Rocks…And More’ is the latest show staged by the ever-popular First Act: you can see it at Shanklin Theatre from 28th -29th March – with an extra date now added on 30th March! It’s great to see First Act back on stage with a showcase of acts from its talented members, so get your tickets by calling 01983 868000 or visiting https://www.shanklintheatre.com.
The Apollo Players are in rehearsal for ‘Doubt’ which opens on 1st April: set in St Nicholas Roman Catholic Church and School, the Bronx, New York, 1964, where we meet several intriguing characters. Sister Aloysius Beauvier, the School Principal, riven by fierce conviction and moral certainty. Sister James: inspired by the joy of teaching and devoted to her pupils. Father Brendan Flynn. The charismatic preacher and teacher intent on bringing the Church closer to the community. And Mrs Muller, mother of Douglas, a 12-year-old pupil and altar boy.
What do they have in common? Suspicion. Certainty. Judgement. And Doubt. Book your tickets from https://www.apollo-theatre.org.uk/doubt/ or by calling 01983 210010.
Use the same number and the link https://www.apollo-theatre.org.uk/his-name-is-zak-a-hard-hitting-production-from-the-apollo-youth-theatre/ to book tickets for the Apollo Youth Theatre’s next show too. At the Apollo on 15th and 16th April, ‘His Name is Zak’ explores love in its many guises – but does it come with conditions? Growing up and finding out who you are is hard enough for many teenagers, but for Zak, it was harder than most. Different viewpoints of the same situations can cause conflict and ultimately pain, but as everyone is keen to get their voice heard, who is listening to Zak?
Often when someone attempts suicide, the first question asked is ‘Why?’. With a mixture of dance, animation, film and theatre we unravel the relationships around Zak to examine what led him to this point of desperation.
Finally, on 10th April, Bembridge Village Hall hosts ‘An Evening With Judy Garland’, an intimate look at the star’s life, with songs from her films. If you have never seen the amazingly talented Hanna Nixon as Judy before, here’s your chance. Audience members at previous concerts she has given as Judy have been mesmerised by the way she captures the legendary singer’s voice and stage persona. There are still a few tickets left for this, with proceeds being donated to Bembridge Little Theatre Club, so don’t miss out – call 07841950261 to secure your seat.
That’s it for now – but look forward to a bumper month of shows in April! Till then, happy theatre-going!
