Sandown & Shanklin Independent Lifeboat and HM Coastguard teams from Bembridge and Ventnor have been in action in Shanklin this afternoon (Tuesday) over concerns for a group of people potentially cut off by the tide.
Members of the public flagged down Bembridge Coastguard Rescue Team whilst they were on patrol, alerting the team to a group potentially in difficulty at Horse Ledge, between Shanklin and Ventnor.
The lifeboat made contact with the individuals, who confirmed they were safe and well and did not require any assistance.
With no action required, the independent lifeboat and Coastguard Rescue Teams have stood down from the incident.
Meanwhile, Police have been making separate enquiries on the Esplanade at Shanklin in relation to concerns for the welfare of an individual.
If you or someone else is in difficulty on the coast or at sea, or if you spot what you think may be unexploded ordnance, then dial 999 and ask for the Coastguard. Further safety information can be found at https://coastguardsafety.campaign.gov.uk/.
