Fewer than 500 people were given the first dose of a Covid vaccine on the Isle of Wight last week.
The emphasis, however, is shifting to inviting the next age group in for their first vaccinations — the over 45s.
In the week between 4th and 11th April, 498 first Covid vaccinations were given to Isle of Wight residents, bring the total number of people to have received at least their first dose to 88,348 people, or 73.7% of the Island’s 16+ population.
Data recorded by the National Immunisation Management Service database, published by NHS England, shows in the under 50s cohort, 19,467 people have now had their first dose.
With a shortage in the number of vaccine doses in the last fortnight, the focus has been and will continue to be, on providing second doses to those who had received their first vaccination in January, so it can fit within the 12-week timeframe provided for both stages.
A change in the way the data has been recorded means specific data for the Isle of Wight is now less readily available.
With the combination of NHS Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCGs) across Hampshire, Southampton, and the Isle of Wight, vaccination figures are now combined whereas before data was recorded by the three separate CCGs.
Across the new CCG area (Hampshire, Southampton, and the Island) 1,056,272 Covid vaccines have been given — 860,742 first and 195,530 second doses.

More to this than meets the eye says Mrs Hook
Yes, as they said, they are shifting to the second jab to save lives. Did you read the article?
They just need Harry Hill presenting to complete this Covid comedy.
I had my first jab on the assurance that vaccines were the way out of lockdown. Now it is clear they are not. Nor will I ever use the services of any firm requiring medical verification (upcoming covid passports).
As such I won’t be getting the second dose.
The latest info on BBC states that residents without a Covid Passport will have heavy restrictions placed on them. This virus will only disappear if people follow the guidelines and have both vaccinations.
Well done, when the next lock down comes you will be one of the people who WILL have contributed to it’s spread but refusing to continue to protect others buy having the second jab. BTW, many countries in the world, have for a very long time, required any traveller to have a certain set of vaccines. To require people to have had the covid vaccine is no different. IT’S FOR THE GREATER GOOD! It’s called being part of a society.
Hopefully we’ll get everyone full protected before the much needed holiday traffic comes. There is only one way out of this pandemic. And sticking your head up your arse and wishing it away is not it. The vaccine is the only way. It is SAFE! Despite what the click bate press would love to cook up to sell more papers. Only local press now left reporting the real news. Keep the good work up island echo. 🙂
Take the vaccine. Only brainless morons believe this nonsense.
Very Sad you feel that way I just want to protect others
We were told that there maybe a shortage throughout April, so that the 2nd doses could be managed so no problem they are on track.
Be responsible protect yourself and in turn that will protect others, we all need to be adult about this pandemic, and if you are fed up with it do the sensible thing and get your jabs …..
Then we can all move on with our lives.
Don’t forget this is new for the whole world not just me/you etc .
