This is your weekly round-up of some of the latest court cases heard at the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court.

Monday 30th August – Friday 3rd September 2021
• Yan Rowan Peters, 40, of High Street in Ryde was found guilty of drug driving in Winchester in February 2019. He was disqualified from driving for 20 months, fined £525 and ordered to pay £650 costs with a £53 surcharge.
• Lindsey Ellis, 32, pleaded guilty to failing to ensure 2 children attended 2 schools as required. She was given a 6-month conditional discharge and ordered to pay costs of £100 with a £22 surcharge.
• Shaun Battle, 51, of no fixed abode, admitted failing to surrender to bail. He was jailed for 7 days, fined £120 and ordered to pay a £34 surcharge. He also pleaded guilty to being drunk and disorderly, for which there was no separate penalty.
• Samuel Martyn Williams, 33, of Great Preston Road in Ryde, pleaded guilty to driving without insurance. He was disqualified from driving for 6 months, fined £292, ordered to pay £85 costs and a £34 surcharge.
• Daniel Sprooles, 49, of East Hill Road in Ryde, pleaded guilty to driving without due care and attention. He was disqualified from driving for 6 months, fined £120 and ordered to pay costs of £85 with a £34 surcharge.
• Peter Reynolds, 49, of Somerset Road in Ryde, admitted possession of a knife, failing to surrender and possession of a Class B drug – cannabis. He was handed a 3-month prison sentence, suspended for 12 months, and ordered to complete 6 months alcohol treatment and 6 rehabilitation days. He was also ordered to pay a fine of £80 and a £128 surcharge.
• Stephen Ward, 57, of Melbourne Street in Newport, pleaded guilty to being in charge of a motor vehicle whilst drunk (79). He was given 10 points on his licence and fined £133, as well as being ordered to pay £85 costs and a £34 surcharge.
• Craig Smith, 36, of Dame Anthony’s Close in Binstead admitted drink driving (119). He was disqualified from driving for 28 months, ordered to complete 140 hours unpaid work and pay costs of £85 with a £95 surcharge.
• Trevor Stanton, 80, of Marina Avenue in Ryde, was found guilty of sexual assault on a male – momentary touching. He was handed a restraining order, fined £345 and ordered to pay costs of £650 with a £35 surcharge.
• Tom Court, 33, of Afton Down in Freshwater pleaded guilty to drink driving. He was disqualified from driving for 14 months, fined £80 and ordered to pay £85 costs with a £34 surcharge.
• Anthony Potter, 64, of Trafalgar Road in Newport admitted being drunk and disorderly. He was fined £84 and ordered to pay £85 costs with a £34 surcharge.
• Jonathan Nash, 57, of Westcourt Close in Shorwell pleaded guilty to drink driving (79). He was disqualified from driving for 21 months, fined £120 and ordered to pay £85 costs with a £34 surcharge.
A lot of drink drivers on here….. not good
And yet during lock down it all stopped. Maybe publicans start paying attention to which of their customers drink then drive home. I’ve worked in pubs in my 20’s. You know who the drink drivers are. Time to grass them up.

Two of the drivers are 57 years old and both had an alcohol reading of 79. One was banned and one not why.
So are all these drunk drivers linked to some of the reported car incidents which have been reported with cars rolling over, single car incidents? It would be nice to know, weeks later which ones they are responsible or connected to.
