Police are in attendance at a road traffic incident on Long Lane in Newport this evening (Sunday) that has forced the closure of the road.
The incident occurred at around 22:30 and has seen a vehicle crash somewhere along the road between the junction with Landscape Lane and Downend.
It is unclear whether or not the wet and windy driving conditions have played a part in the incident at all.
Southern Vectis Route 8 buses are currently diverting via Staplers Road and Briddlesford Road to rejoin the route at Robin Hill.
For traffic wishing to head up Long Lane a closure is currently enforced at the roundabout on Staplers Road, whilst for those wishing to head down the road a police closure is in place at the top of road at the Robin Hill roundabout.
Hampshire Constabulary have been approached for a comment with further information expected in the morning.

There was flooding in the dip when I drove through last night, had to go slow in the middle of the road to get through it. Wouldn’t be surprised if that had something to do with it.
Well done to you for taking care when driving though, if flooding was the reason for this crash, I wonder why the driver didn’t take the same care as you did?…

Keep taking your medication, you lost mixed up little soul, you are a very special person….

The motorcyclist is my son. He had stopped to assess the situation as had a taxi driver coming in the opposite direction so now there is no need to wonder.
