Nine Acres Primary School are in no doubt celebrating a fantastic performance at J Rock in Portsmouth yesterday evening (Monday), in which they achieved 4th place overall and no less than 11 individual awards.
There was stiff competition at the Portsmouth Guildhall with 9 schools from across Dorset, Hampshire, Surrey and the Isle of Wight all battling it out for the top spot in the J Rock heat.
Although they didn’t quite make the podium with a 4th place overall, Nine Acres were awarded well for their performance ‘Blood Diamond’ telling the story of life in Sierra Leone. They received Awards of Excellence for Stage Use; Concept; Drama; Soundtrack; Set Design and Function; Costuming Character; Visual Enhancement; Entertainment and Lighting. They also walked home with the Award for Cultural and Educational Achievement and the Award for Positive Inclusion.
Another Island school competing in last night’s competition was Medina House School. Medina, with their performance ‘The Pride of Africa’, received Awards of Excellence for Stage Use; Concept; Soundtrack; Set Design and Function; Costuming Character and Entertainment, as well as the Award for Spirit of Rock Challenge and the Award for Performers’ Choice.
Stenbury Federation delivered ‘Dare to Dream’ and received Awards of Excellence for Choreography; Performance Skill; Stage Use; Concept; Drama; Soundtrack; Entertainment; Lighting and Stage Crew.
