The NHS in the South East of England is urging people with a learning disability to have their free flu vaccination this winter.
Some people with a learning disability can be more susceptible to flu and can go on to develop more serious complications such as bronchitis or pneumonia.
Anyone with a learning disability is entitled to receive a free vaccination. The vaccine offers the best level of protection from the flu virus, and it’s important to have the vaccine every year, especially as the flu virus strain changes every year.
Every year the flu virus kills people and hospitalises many more. This year it is even more important people who are most at risk of flu have their free flu vaccination. All clinics will run in line with infection prevention control and social distancing measures will be in place.
Vaughan Lewis, Medical Director for NHS England and NHS Improvement’s South East region said:
“I urge everyone with a learning disability, or anyone who lives with or provides care to someone with a learning disability, to ensure they are immunised against flu.
“With both the flu virus and Covid-19 circulating, flu immunisation is more important than ever to reduce infections and protect friends and loved ones.”
People with learning disabilities are less likely to get the flu if the people around them have also been vaccinated. Carers of anyone with a learning disability are also entitled to the free vaccination. This will help to protect them and reduce the risk of spreading the flu to the people they support. All carers (family member or support worker) are urged to ensure they are registered at their local GP practice as a carer of someone with a learning disability.

One hopes that now we are all in such a ‘caring society’ that once the elderly, the very ill, the very young, the disabled, and now the less intelligent are all given the very highest priority to save their lives, that there will be ‘enough’ left for those of working age, who work hard to support those who are unable to support themselves.
For if those working, earning wealth, instead of albeit through no fault of their own, those just ‘taking’ from the pot, are then stricken with crippling flu, then who will be left to keep the ‘high dependency’ nation afloat financially?
Nature laws always dictated the survival of the fittest first, not last.
Lets hope there is enough for all people.
yes – the cats paw – nature favours the stronger.
these dimbo’s are gambling on the fact that able bodied, fit, healthy and mentally astute people, will remain well and take care of the others.
nature has an unstoppable way of ensuring that the natural order prevails -one way or another.
Unless the human race ensures that those who are dependent, are always far less in number than those providing the support, societies will collapse and the remaining fit/able bodied and healthy people will move somewhere else to avoid being expected to fetch and carry for hoards of people and not get to enjoy their own lives.
None of us were born with contracts attached to us that says “must care for others”, which means it is voluntary and we are under no obligation to help anyone, ever.
Very true freedom, although the snowflakes won’t ‘see such’ views have merit.
It is like if a person take in ONE stray cat, and looks after it, it is kind. Should that person ‘take in’ 100, then their peculiar odd, misplaced kindness will then affect all those living nearby and the problem will get ever worse as time goes onward and the rescue cats outgrow there surroundings and the ability to keep them feed, and healthy.
Same with us taking in i mm igrants.
We are now at the point of serious damage as work dries up, and manual labour jobs are declining at a faster rate than ever before due to hi-tech and cut backs.
Now we have to keep such, not for a while but forever. Costly in more than just monetary terms too.
