Issues with the sewage system on board Red Osprey along with the earlier engine issues on Red Eagle, means that Red Funnel is currently experiencing delays of up to 4 hours on its vehicle ferry service this afternoon (Thursday). As first reported by Island Echo, it was at around 00:00 this morning that issues with the voith unit on Red Eagle forced cancellations to several sailings. This misery was compounded however at around 12:30 today following the announcement of issues with the sewage system on Red Osprey. As a result of the cross-Solent operator having to run a 1-boat service, there are now delays of up to 3-4 hours. Island Echo readers have said that the terminal building in East Cowes is rammed, with people waiting inside to get out of the stifling heat. It is understood that vouchers are being given out to affected passengers to claim a free drink. A Red Funnel spokesperson has said:
“If you would prefer to cancel your sailing and seek an alternative, or amend to another day, please use our amend / cancellation page. Please note, we are extremely busy throughout the day, and will not be able to offer any alternative sailings for today.”
“If you would still like to travel with us, please expect a delay of at least 3 hours to your original departure, and adjust your arrival time for check in accordingly.”
UPDATE @ 17:18 – Red Funnel’s website is now showing delays of up to 4-5 hours. For more information click here.
