Isle of Wight actress Anna Constable has landed a role in EastEnders, joining the long-running BBC soap as Jodie, the youngest sister of Nicola Mitchell.
Constable is among 5 new cast members announced as part of the arrival of the Hawkins family – Nicola’s estranged relatives – who are set to make their debut in Walford later this summer. The new family also includes Gemma Hawkins, her husband Ned Roper, their son Ryder and Nicola’s mother Rose.
Producers have teased that the Hawkins’ arrival will bring years of unresolved family tensions to Albert Square, with old wounds set to resurface as the family reunites.
Constable, who has Noonan Syndrome, has built her acting career despite living with epilepsy and other health conditions that leave her in chronic pain. She graduated from a Performance Making course in 2023 after travelling to London twice a week to study.
The Isle of Wight actress has previously performed with Way Forward and Theatre Train, as well as starring in Imposter 22 in London’s West End. She also received acclaim for a role at The Lowry in Salford, while Wightlink has supported her with assisted travel since 2022 as she pursued a career in acting.
Speaking upon landing the role, Anna adds:
“Growing up watching EastEnders I never thought a disabled actress like me could ever land a role like this. But here I am loud and proud and taking no prisoners in mine or Jodie’s wake”.
