Cowes Sports’ Tommy Jackson has been crowned England Beach Soccer’s Player of the Year.
23-year-old Tommy – who plays for Malaga in Spain – was presented with the award at a ceremony held at the Village Hotel in Portsmouth on Saturday (25th February) for scoring 2 goals for England in the NEOM International Tournament in Saudi Arabia.
Goalkeeper Tommy also won silverware for Malaga in November of last year in the Mar Menor Cup.
The England Beach Soccer International and former Medina College pupil hopes to be able to make a living by playing for beach soccer sides throughout the continent of Europe.
Tommy, who lives in Newport, said:
“I’m honoured to have won this award. Well done to all the players and coaches who also won awards on the night.
“I’d like to give a massive thank you to my personal sponsors for your ongoing support. Without them, none of this would be possible.
“I’d like to give a special mention to Luke Kerr, Aaron Clarke and Felipe Lira for all the support and coaching the last couple years to push to me to my best and get me where I am today.
“My most important thank you is to Tayler Canning and family for everything they do for me.”
Also honoured in the ceremony was the Isle of Wight’s Mitch Day, who won the Player’s Player title.
Mitch was the leading scorer for England in the Saudi Arabia tournament and joint winner of the golden boot.
Pete Dyer – from the Isle of Wight – was named Youth Coach of the Year.
Pete won the award for his work with the Isle of Wight’s Under 16 and Under 18 sides, who have competed in the Majer Cup in Portugal for the last 4 years.
The presentation evening was hosted by Isle of Wight coach, Luke Kerr.
