A student from the Isle of Wight has won a £1,000 scholarship for outstanding academic achievement at the University of Worcester.
Edward Knight, from Albany Road in Newport, who previously attended Isle of Wight College, was presented with the scholarship by the University’s Vice Chancellor and Chief Executive, Professor David Green, at a special ceremony earlier this month.
26-year-old Edward earned his award in recognition of outstanding achievement throughout the 2014/15 academic year.
After receiving the scholarship, Edward, a third-year Horticulture student, said:
“I’m immensely pleased and proud to have achieved this award. It’s a validation of seven years hard work in the Horticulture sector and I hope a sign of things to come. I’d like to take this opportunity to thank Rob Mew for encouraging me when I started out as an Lv2 apprentice.”
Professor David Green said:
“Congratulations to Edward on his achievement. Commitment combined with ability and excellent teaching produces outstanding results and we are delighted that Edward is thriving here at Worcester.
“This year the University of Worcester is delighted to award academic scholarships to a record 156 students. We hope to award even more next year as our students go from strength to strength.
“These scholarships are supported by generous philanthropists, the University’s distinguished Honorary Fellows, benefactors and donations from successful graduates. Winning a scholarship further improves our students’ already excellent job prospects on graduation as well as providing welcome practical support.
“Other scholarships awarded by firms to University of Worcester students include attractive opportunities for salaried work placements, as well as prizes. It is only right that students who excel here at the University of Worcester are rewarded and we are working hard with our many partners to create even more opportunities for students to earn scholarships, prizes and placements next year.”
The University of Worcester will be hosting its next Open Days on Friday 30th October, Saturday 31st and on Sunday 29th November. For more information, visit www.worcester.ac.uk.
