Isle of Wight Libraries are celebrating an outstanding response from residents after once again taking part in BBC Radio Solent’s annual Soapbox Appeal.
Throughout January, all Isle of Wight Council libraries served as drop‑off points for donations of new and unused household cleaning products and toiletries.
Islanders gave generously, filling an impressive 40 boxes with essential items that will now be distributed to community pantries across the Island.
With the rising cost of living continuing to put pressure on many families, hygiene poverty remains a growing concern.
Simple necessities such as soap, toothpaste and everyday personal care products are becoming harder for some households to afford.
Development librarian, Louise Emery, said she had been moved by the kindness shown.
“This appeal is a fantastic chance to get donations to the people who need them most.
“As a service, we’re absolutely delighted with the outstanding response we’ve had and proud to play a part in making a difference. A heartfelt thank you to everyone who contributed.”
The library service will now work with local community pantries to ensure the donated items reach households that need them most.
