Feedback from Isle of Wight residents is being sought as Island Roads launches its annual customer survey.
The survey, which is carried out in February each year, is designed to seek residents’ feedback about the range of highway services provided by Island Roads.
The short survey asks residents to score the performance of different services provided by Island Roads such as highway maintenance, road and pavement resurfacing, winter services, street cleansing and lighting, verge and grass cutting.
Feedback from the survey is used to help the company identify services that are perceived to be working well, as well as areas where residents feel improvements need to be made.
Over the last year, major schemes at Smallbrook Junction and Coppins Bridge have been completed and another significant programme is well underway at Ryde Transport Interchange with the highway elements due to complete this Spring. However, Smallbrook junction has proven to be far from perfect with the addition of last-minute safety bollards, and the Ryde Transport Interchange has already come under criticism due to the design of the new pier exit.
A programme of improvement work to upgrade bridges and highway retaining walls has also been continuing across the Island including the recent completion of a complex engineering project at Belgrave Road.
Alongside this, the company has continued its work to upgrade the condition of the network of roads and pavements across the Island and carry out its year-round programme of highway maintenance repairs. It has also continued its planned cycles of street and gully cleansing, verge and grass cutting and vital winter services to keep the highway areas safe for drivers.
Steve Ashman, Island Roads’ Service Director, has said:
“Our annual survey provides us with an important opportunity to hear directly from residents about how they feel we are performing in delivering our highway services on the Island and we really value the views of all those who take part.
“The results of the survey will be used, alongside the range of formal contractual assessments and measures that are undertaken all year round, to help us gauge improvements we need to make to our services.
“It also helps us identify areas where we need to provide more information to the community about the work we do.”
The survey runs until 28th February and can be accessed online at https://www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/IslandRoads2023. Paper copies of the survey including large print versions are available on request, by emailing [email protected].
The views of younger and older drivers are also being sought with information about the survey being shared with Sixth Form students and Age UK IW. Posters with information about the survey will also be placed in public libraries.

Sadly whatever is highlighted in the survey about their abysmal standards nothing will change.
The Company is badly managed.
I would not trust them to fill a pothole.
There employees spend more time sitting in vehicles
eating, texting and looking at newspaper.
They should be paid on Work output, not for the number of hours
they spend sitting on their ar*es.
Feedback is simple, too many temporary traffic lights for too long in too many different places with little apparent work appearing to be done!
If the bloody council stopped dipping the the pot to the tune of over a 100k some months, maybe we could see that money spent on actually benefitting us!!
Annual survey ?? Really !! And still they do not know how poor the service & quality they provide is … unbelievable !! Shockingly unbelievable…
Quite easy just fill the bloody pot holes ️
Who ever is responsible for placing Signage for Island Roads needs
Help in understanding Sign rules.
Most of them would struggle with a Chapter 8
I would like to know how many people work for Island Roads but perhaps I ought to ask how many are employed by them. They seem to spend most of their time repairing pavements which are not in a bad state or side roads.Generally, in my opinion, so many of our roads are in need of repair but get neglected. As you may perceive, I think the management of our roads is an absolute disgrace.
They have no idea what they are doing.
They are paid to sit in their vehicles all day.
I blame the Management.
My dog digs more holes on the beach in 1 day, than
they dig in a year, and he’s a Chihuahua.
Can you please explain why after resurfacing Wilton Park road at each end the middle part has been unsurfaced after I think six or more years? That stretch is in terrible condition. Also the top of the nearby Atherley road which hasn’t been touched by you since you started resurfacing and is nothing but a series of humps and bumps.
You want my feedback.
Your shit and you know you are.
