Damage to a hovercraft following an incident that involved it colliding with a safety fender in Southsea has been fixed ahead of schedule.
Hovertravel has announced the return of Island Flyer to its cross-Solent service from this afternoon (Friday) following the incident on Friday 10th.
The craft was expected to remain out of service for 2 weeks, but thanks to the hard work of engineers, the repairs and necessary works have taken just 3 days.
A Hovertravel statement reads:
“Our engineering team at Ryde and the team at Griffon Hoverwork worked around the clock to exceed all expectations and turned a 2-week absence into just 3 days. As well thanking them for their exceptional efforts, we must also thank the Maritime & Coastguard Agency (MCA) for their welcome assistance and prompt action.
“Now, with a second craft, we have the flexibility to add extra flights and increase our departures up to every 15 minutes to match demand, so we would ask that you check online for the latest availability.
“We would also like to thank our customers for their loyalty and understanding; your support is always more than generous and all of us at Hovertravel are grateful.”

That’s brilliant, well done!
Well done boys, but please don’t be too efficient, dedicated and professional, as you will make All the other engineers on the island look bad !
