Brighstone Primary School welcomed back ex-pupil Avy Sesetti to talk about his beliefs as part of this year’s Inter Faith Week Activities.
Avy visited with his mother Sunitha and grandmother Gayarthri who demonstrated Hindu dancing and brought in traditional sweet and savoury treats for the children to sample.
Now a student at Portsmouth Grammar School, Avy said:
“I felt very proud to be invited back to my old school to talk about Hinduism as part of Inter Faith Week. The children enjoyed hearing about our Hindu festivals including Holi and Diwali and trying the Indian food prepared by my mum and grandma.”
Children were also visited by Methodist Mike Hackleton and Anglican Rev Jackie Maw as well as Muhammed Bahar to talk about Islam and Jonathon Bluestone about Judaism. They each spoke about the festivals celebrated by their religion – allowing the children to identify similarities between faiths, as well as differences.
Isle of Wight Council Chairman Councillor Claire Critchison and Cabinet member for Children’s Services, Education and Lifelong Skills Councillor Debbie Andre also visited the school during Inter Faith Week and saw the children taking part in the special activities.
Headteacher Rebecca Lennon said:
“It was a pleasure to welcome visitors of different faiths to the school to talk about their religious festivals. The children have had the opportunity to try delicious food, take part in traditional Indian dancing and listen to music which is integral to each religion’s festivals and celebrations.
“It was also wonderful to see Avy again and hear him speak to the school about his faith with confidence and enthusiasm. We are very proud of him.”
Inter Faith Week is a nationally organised event which aims to increase awareness of the different faith communities in the UK, in particular celebrating the contribution which their members make to their neighbourhoods and to wider society.

“Latest news” ?
But the event happened in November.
Only a month late IE…..Lol.
i bet the kids fell asleep
Why? Were you presenting as well?
Always wise move to indoctrinate from a very young age to ensure the otherwise unacceptable will become so.
The young are delightfully naive, and see things through eyes and minds unburdened by such questions as adults ponder upon. Such as will adding more cultures bring more problems to our small, overcrowded land and growing impoverished people be able to bear, will their religious tolerance be as acceptable as our own, will they still always wish to live their way of life, in our land and not blend , but still want all the benefits and perks which our ancestors worked so hard with many dying in that struggle to gain a better life for us, and not some chancer who now decide to move to jump on the every emptying gravy train.
Suggest you brush up on your history before you bang on too much about Indians and Pakistanis in the UK as you are making yourself look a bit of an idiot.

Direct British rule of India ran from 1858 to 1947 and ended in the bloodshed of partition. We, the British, were directly responsible for that.
Yep, Blame the British……as always…yawn.
It was the British that kept the peace ffs.
As soon as we left it all kicked off.
Not forgeting all the good that we done, such as building the whole of Indias railways, roads, government buildings etc.
We helped the indian nation become what it is today….including their space program in which we indirectly pay for.
So not all bad a ?
What tolerance? You’re clearly a bigot. I’m sure the children are far more open-minded that you, little man.
Now, if you are going to attempt to express your discriminatory views in public, do at least ensure your syntax is in proper English.
your views on the lack of white people in african governments or the lack of anglo saxon representation in chinese and japanese power structures – might be worth hearing, seeing as all we ever hear is about the uk rainbow window dressing – never see any anti racist demos outside african embassies do we, due to the too black governments.
“African Governments”? “Due to the too black government”?
If you can write a coherent and rational question, I would have responded. However given your word salad, It’s a no from me.
I think your village is missing it’s ejit.
stop trying to deflect wighters point – you are not addressing the point that there are no white people in african governments – why is there such racial discrimination on that continent
I wonder if the politicians involved in apartheid in South Africa were white?
i wonder if the current plan to seize white peoples property in south africa is designed by the black politicians
When in Rome.., or perhaps best settle in like minded lands.
Good point.
Just like those Orange-faced “expats” in Benidorm. They work so hard to integrate, evidenced by the English Ghettos, Irish pubs & refusing to learn the language.
no pagan, satanist or atheists were invited then – hardly inclusive
