An injured person has been evacuated from the beach at Priory Bay by lifeboat this evening (Wednesday) following a fall whilst attending a wedding.
Bembridge RNLI’s inshore lifeboat was called into action at around 18:00 following a request for assistance from Coastguard Rescue Officers, who responded to the scene alongside the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service a short time before.
Due to the remote location of the casualty, the decision was made that it would be quicker and safer to stretcher her onto the lifeboat and then transport around to nearby Seagrove Bay, rather than carrying the injured female a long distance through the woods and across uneven terrain.
With the wedding party looking on, the injured woman – who fell and injured her hip – was carefully loaded into the lifeboat and taken around the coast to Seagrove Bay, accompanied by a paramedic.
Once at Seagrove, Coastguard Rescue Officers from Bembridge and Ventnor assisted the lifeboat crew in transferring the casualty ashore and straight into the awaiting ambulance – a truly multi-agency operation.
The injured woman is now being conveyed to St Mary’s Hospital for further assessment treatment.
