Island Line services have been suspended this morning (Saturday) as a result of ice on the line.
Train services running between Ryde Pier Head and Shanklin are cancelled as a result.
South Western Railway have said they hope to get back underway once the ice has melted at around 09:30.
As was the case yesterday, when services were cancelled for the same reason, tickets are being accepted on the Southern Vectis route 2 and 3 buses.
Island Line apologise for the inconvenience caused.
UPDATE @ 09:50 – Disruption is expected to continue until 11:30.
UPDATE @ 12:54 – Island Line has confirmed that the ice related disruption is over, services are no longer affected.

So the trains will be running from Ryde Pier Head to Shanklin. Oh good. All the way, end to end then. Sure?
Where does it say Pier head, try reading it again.
Try reading paragraph 2. Then you may ‘get it right’. Right
With the old trains they used to run one through the night up and down the line so as to prevent any issues with the early morning services…..
Don’t bring logic and common sense into the discussion please.
Why don’t you de-ice the third rail with your hands You know nothing about how the system works so shut the f@@k up
Oh the joys of living in a third world island, where the trains dont like the cold, ferries cannot handle a timetable , the hover doesnt like wind and waves.I am more than convinced that winter comes every year , can we plan for it, obviously not.
Well if you don’t like it here the go back where you come from most people are happy here you are obviously not , all you do is moan money can’t buy everything I’m afraid. live over there and there’s no problem
Since the new trains and the new floating bridge that have arrived to the island there has been problems with them ever since they have arrived to the island so they say the council should sort out the problems out rather than the non tax payer’s paying for it why don’t the council pay for all the problems they have
Island Line is nothing to do with the council or the tax payer. The problems here are no different to those faced nationally with rail. Its never been any different. Only difference is social media pushing stories.
I like big choo choo trains
Lol love that
These train when they were in London had a de-icing fluid tank fitted which allowed de-icing fluid to be sprayed onto the 3rd electric rail as the train travelled along in passenger service. Just waiting for the sun to melt the ice off the power rail here in the IOW is just madness !! I believe SWR have no real interest in running Island Line as a pro-active route. The line upgrade has been a waste of money and has not led to a better service for islanders
It’s a loss making service for SWR and always has been. It’s better for profits not to run trains, hence no attempt to proactively de-ice the rails.
Bob Seely attempts to fob us off by saying the money for this upgrade is part of his promised, but not delivered, “Island Deal”.
Anyone believe him?
wonder how they manage in norway and canada…must get the wrong type of ice..
