Temperatures are expected to plummet to -4c in places across the Isle of Wight overnight, bringing icy conditions on the roads and even the potential for frozen harbours tomorrow morning (Monday).
A cold, clear night is expected with a moderate frost in places, according to IW Met Service. This will lead to icy patches as well as some low lying freezing mist and fog patches. Temperatures will sit between -2c to 0c, although a few localised rural spots could see -4c. It will be closer to 2c on windward coasts.
Ice, frost and poor visibility is expected first thing tomorrow morning, especially on more rural routes, but things will improve by mid-morning to produce another fine day with long sunny spells.
Gritters have already completed one run across the Isle of Wight having left Stag Lane at 17:30. The gritters will be re-deployed at 06:00 tomorrow morning to re-treat particularly wet patches.
Motorists should take extra care on the roads when travelling around the Island. At around 07:30 this morning a car left the road near Ventnor after hitting black ice, as previously reported by Island Echo.
A frost alert has been issued by IW Met Service – official weather forecasters to Island Echo. You can view how the Island will be affected at https://www.iwmetservice.co.uk/iceandfrost/.
