Hovertravel services have been cancelled this afternoon (Sunday) as a result of adverse weather.
Heavy rain and wind are causing the disruption on the cross-Solent service between Ryde and Southsea.
An update on whether services can resume is expected at 17:45.
Purchased tickets are being accepted on Wightlink’s Fast Cat.

I’ve been to Ryde sea front very low winds and how can rain stop the craft FLYING not many traveller more the reason ,a service when it suits them again
No high winds in forecast today
Steph – the wind is from the south today, meaning coming up over the downs – ryde seafront is sheltered from a southerly wind – go and stand on southsea seafront and you will soon realise why they stopped running
Many years ago, I recall that the sea was really choppy, and it was blowing a gale, resulting in the Cat actually being quicker than the Hovercraft. The Hovercraft kept on running despite the dreadful conditions. Hovertravel need to grow a pair.
Many years ago they did just that and five people died.
The decision to run the service is made by the pilots who, unlike you, know what they are doing.
Did just what? The occasion I referred to occurred in the late 1980s, at least 16 years after the tragic accident you refer to. The current craft are significantly larger, and presumably far safer. And how do you know who makes the decisions and for what reasons?
