Hovertravel has announced that it has reverted to an hourly service with immediate effect.
A reduction in passenger numbers has led to the decision, which also sees a first-come, first-served system come back into operation.
The cross-Solent operator, which continues to run between Tier 1 and Tier 4, says they have the ability to add an extra service in under 30 minutes, should the need arise.
Passengers are warned that an online booking does not guarantee a seat at the stated time. Customers must be at the terminal 10 minutes prior to departure time. Preferred bookings for customers will be paused until further notice but will be re-instated when the first come, first served policy is amended.
Neil Chapman, managing director of Hovertravel, said:
“With Portsmouth entering Tier Four, we have been assessing passenger numbers and with many bookings being no-shows, we are pleased the rules about not travelling are being observed.
“Our hourly service will keep the Solent connected for essential travel only, alongside the critical rapid transport of stretcher patients, time-limited pharmaceuticals and other post/freight requirements.”
“By continuing to work closely with Wightlink, Red Funnel and the Isle of Wight Council, Hovertravel is ensuring the Solent stays connected.”
