At the start of Cowes Week, the Island’s High Sheriff, Jacque Gifford, was among the invited guests to attend an exhibition of local artwork at The Courtyard Gallery on Cowes High Street.
The event, showcasing the talents of Gail Willows, Anna Wyeth and Brian Marriott, brings together three unique styles that both contrast and complement each other. While a nautical theme runs throughout the exhibition, the use of different mediums – from paintings and ceramics to glass – brings a diverse and dynamic feel to the collection.
Particularly eye-catching are the colourful glass creations by Brian Marriott, which depict themes such as the America’s Cup and yacht club burgees, offering a new dimension to the exhibit.
Anna Wyeth’s seascapes are also featured in a newly opened shop in Cowes High Street named ‘Joy’. The store is run by Christopher Hooker, who lost his wife to breast cancer. It was both her wish and his that awareness of the symptoms of the disease be raised through community spaces like this.
Christopher has clarified that ‘Joy’ is not a charity shop, but he plans to donate proceeds to a suitable cancer charity once one is identified that aligns with their wishes.
The shop, located at the corner of Cowes High Street and the start of Bath Road, offers a wide variety of items including china, glass, soft furnishings and more – all chosen with care and purpose.
