Spots of thick ice are forming on some roads on the Island this evening making for tricky driving conditions.
Island Echo has received reports that there is black ice on the road at Burnt House Lane on the outskirts of Newport as well as on Godric Road in Newport between the Asda bus stop and the Asda roundabout on St George’s Way.
Earlier today, Island Roads closed Shide Road in Newport, Summers Lane in Totland and Culver Down Road at Culver, all due to hazardous icy conditions.
Island Roads have been out gritting the precautionary routes this afternoon as minus temperatures continue into the evening.
Islanders are urged to drive at a speed appropriate for the conditions and to stay vigilant, even on gritted roads.
UPDATE @ 17:05 – Since the publication of this article, Island Roads have confirmed that Burnt House Lane has been closed.

You can’t educate the feteristic crashers, brace yourself for tomorrows crashers…
Really need to do something with Burnt House Lane e.g. lowering the hedges so you can see what’s coming around corners or purchasing a couple of yards of land either side to make passing easier in places.
Doesn’t matter how slowly or carefully you drive, it’s the idiot coming the other way going far too fast who’s the problem.
This road needs adding to the gritting route.
Scandi flick over the ice at 6k revs in first and you’ll be fine
It’s winter expect icy roads!!!!, nobody is forcing you to drive,it’s simple if you don’t like it the icy roads DON’T drive
Who was the dickhead in a blue honda civic on middle road at 6am yesterday (friday morning) who over took me?
It was minus 6.5° and ice was clearly visible on the road.
Takes a certain kind of inbred moron I guess.
Could have been another druggie, plenty of them driving on the roads…
Clearly a better driver than you if they kept it under control
How about stopping “uneducated” idiots parking on the pavement
Outside the Council Houses along Great Preston Road, Ryde
Usual idiot, parks a yellow car on the pavement, teach these people the
Highway code
Tow away vehicles who park illegally on Pavements.
Pavements are for pedestrians, not for lazy uneducated idiots to park where they want.
Who are you talking too, I’m not sure island echo takes highway request jeez
STOP YOUR CONTANT MOANING ! If your that peed off,
just ** *** ***** ?
