The owners of Gurnard Pines have taken back possession of the site’s central complex this morning (Monday) as a result of the leaseholder not paying their rent, insurance or utilities, leaving a question mark over planned events such as weddings.
GUPI Properties Limited has confirmed that they have changed all the locks to the main building after terminating the lease held by The Cowes Club (IOW) Limited, headed up by Michael John Henry Ward.
It means that the gym, swimming pool and events space is closed until further notice, meaning that all Elite School of Swimming lessons have been cancelled.
In a statement, it’s been said that the management team of GUPI Properties Limited appreciates that there have been many unforeseeable factors that have affected the current leaseholder’s ability to make the business succeed such as COVID, utility prices and the cost of living crisis.
Terry Prosser of GUPI Properties Limited has said:
“We are in a strong financial position and believe, with the local community’s support, we can make this centre thrive once more.
“We will be looking at the current use of the space within the building and are considering how the use of the Ballroom and Chartroom can reach its full potential, allowing events such as weddings and parties to take place in the future.
“We are committed to ensuring all staff are offered employment where possible and that funds are made available for improvements and repairs to the building”.
The centre will be closed from today whilst improvements and repairs commence. It is anticipated that it will reopen at the beginning of March, with a fresh look and ready to invite all gym members and visitors alike.
The Pavilion – the bar and restaurant at the rear of the building – is open for business as usual.
The spokesperson for GUPI Properties has added:
“We would like to apologise for any inconvenience that today’s events have caused but are confident that going forward with all your support this will be a great success.
“For anyone wishing to offer suggestions of how we can improve the facilities previously on offer, we would welcome e-mails to be sent to [email protected]“.

Gurnard pines is a dump. It’s not been the same since the early 2000’s
Yep, it is full of peasants who can’t afford to get on the property ladder.

Dr.Jollop, You really sound like an unpleasant person
Soz heavy heart, but i was being sarcastic.
Working class and proud of it.
Down with Tory s**m imo.
I use the centre for over a year now and it’s been a life line for me and helped my MH this will effect me..aswell as others….
The only way Mr Prosser will “make the centre thrive again” is by trebling all the prices. He has form in this.
This could be a lovely place and needs the outdoor pool reinstating. It is currently dirty and very bland and boring. I could be made into a beautiful Mediterranean type complex with a taverna attached.
Could you now? You would probably need to be extended.
I’ve always thought the same. So much potential.
Unable to comment to the holding company because the email address in the news article when used comes back as restricted mail unable to deliver.
