Island Roads will once again be deploying gritters across the Island’s road network this afternoon (Wednesday) and again 12 hours later during the early hours of Thursday morning.
The fleet will be hitting the roads at 16:00 this afternoon and at 04:00 tomorrow morning in a bid to minimise the risk of ice.
Motorists are being reminded that just because a road is treated it does not mean it is free from ice, with additional care urged.
The past few days have been multiple crashes on the roads due to the ice.
To find a list of all the Island's gritting routes, you can visit our dedicated Isle of Wight Gritting Routes & Winter Maintenance page.

Try gritting Moreton so you can reopen it !
Try sticking a bung up the sewer pipe from Yaverland Manor, as the two gully suckers, locally known as ‘scent bottles’ are blocking the road there, as massive increased in traffic which now uses that route as Moreton is flooded.
Does the Manor household entire family suffer from IBS? Seems a bit much to have two tankers for such a small hamlet. Is this caused by eating too much GM foodstuffs, or too rich a diet?
Why can’t they park the two scent bottles in the old, disused Manor farm drive instead of blocking up the roadway and forcing traffic lights to be there?
It would make sense, wouldn’t it? But, unfortunately, there’s not a lot of that around at the moment.
