Keen gardeners will be pleased to hear there are 3,000 additional spaces for the Isle of Wight Council’s popular green garden waste service this year — and subscriptions are now open.
For only £72 per year — the equivalent of just £6 per month — you can get a fortnightly collection of green garden waste which includes the free collection of your real Christmas tree each year.
The subscription window is only open until 20th March 2020 and spaces are filling up fast, so don’t delay – sign up today.
For 2020 the service has been updated to offer users the option of a new direct debit payment service that will automatically renew your subscription each year.
New customers are able to join the council’s very popular green garden waste collection service straight away for the subscription year starting 1st April, at www.iwight.com/greengardenwaste or by calling 01983 823777.
“It saves lots of visits to the tip”
Green waste subscriber Bill Collins, 73, from Newchurch, has spoken about his experience of the service.
He says:
“This service is great — it’s reliable and it saves lots of visits to the tip. It’s also good value for what you get; I am definitely going to subscribe again this year.”
Some garden waste collection rounds are changing to allow up to 10,000 households to be serviced — 3,000 more than in 2019. Find out if your collection day is changing by checking online.
Monthly direct debit now available
Councillor Steve Hastings, cabinet member for recycling, said:
“This service has been a real success, and I am very pleased that we are able to extend it this year to benefit more people.
“What’s more, as part of our ongoing ambitions to provide digital-by-default services customers can now sign up with online direct debit payments, either monthly or annually.”
Lower your carbon footprint
Strategic manager for waste and environment, Natasha Dix, added:
“Subscribing to have your garden waste collected at the kerbside outside your home is a fantastic way to save yourself time, lower your carbon footprint and allow you to spend more time out in the garden.
“All of the green waste collected is composted and goes back into gardens across the Island.”

Half the year you wont need the service as grass not growing rip of council
As the shops empty, and we are locked in our homes, we may end up needing to eat the compost bin contents yet. The ferries can’t operate NOW if someone is ill, what hope when CV hits the crew.
Stock up big style imo.
Plenty of ‘do as I say, not as I do’ types, fully loaded up, telling others not to. It is your family and your responsibility to do the right thing, trust no one else.
I compost all my green waste myself ,using a shredder for bigger stuff, the compost goes back on my garden improving the soil, and there are no emissions from diesel dustcarts transporting the waste to the tip
excellent service for the elderly or residents without transport for the tip….
Shill
Try biffa they only charge when you want it taken away
Why is there a limit on spaces?
