Vecta House nursing home in Newport was overwhelmed over the Christmas period with the kind community spirit of the Island community. Vecta House has built relationships with the charity Embracing Age Isle of Wight who also work alongside a local group named the Wroxall Woollies, together they offer several ways to support and make a difference to residents in care homes to help keep them connected with the community and battle loneliness. Wroxall Woollies are a group that get together to create several items from knitted blankets, fiddle mitts, and hats and gloves and also make personalised cards that are delivered by embracing age every month. Residents at Vecta House recently visited the Wroxall Woollies and volunteers of Embracing Age at St Johns Church Hall for their weekly get-together to see what they do and to thank them for bringing such joy to the residents. Local group Towrags Trike & Bike Club Isle of Wight visited Vecta House at the end of December with a delivery of mince pies. An array of bikes arrived with residents eagerly waiting to see the selection of bikes on display, with members of the clubs taking time to talk to the residents and spread festive cheer. Vecta Hose also had another delivery of mince pies from The Coop in Ventnor. Tanya Everson, Lifestyle Leader at Vecta House, has said:
“We are absolutely overwhelmed with the community spirit, all these acts of kindness brought to our residents at Vecta House is overwhelming. To spend time with residents opening and reading the cards they receive each is a privilege and keeps a sense a connection to our community especially for those resident who are nursed in bed. I would like say a huge thank you to everyone who has showed an act of kindness to our home and our residents, you truly do make a difference.”
