A new initiative led by Island golfers Emma Powell and Lucy Burke is aiming to bring more girls and women into golf, with a free taster evening planned at The TeeHut.
The pair – both well-known in Island golfing circles – are teaming up to encourage younger generations and women under 40–50 to give the sport a try, highlighting golf as fun, social and far more accessible than many realise.
Lucy claimed a medal at this year’s Island Games, while Emma has returned to the sport after a decade-long break, now picking up her clubs again with renewed passion. Both say the lack of younger female players locally inspired them to launch Girls That Golf IOW.
The TeeHut has generously offered its brand-new facility for the event, supporting the mission to widen participation and give beginners a relaxed space to try golf for the first time. More taster sessions and follow-up events are already being planned.
Emma said they simply want to show women that golf is welcoming, enjoyable and suitable for all abilities.
The free taster evening is open to anyone interested in trying golf, meeting like-minded women, or finding a new hobby in a supportive environment.
The event takes place on Monday (8th December) from 18:00 to 20:00.
