Time is running out for schools, sports clubs and community groups on the Isle of Wight to take advantage of the Woodland Trust’s latest free trees giveaway and help the charity reach a staggering 16million tree milestone. The UK’s largest woodland conservation charity has given away a mind-boggling 15million saplings through its ever-popular free trees scheme since it started in 2010 – that’s an average of more than a million trees a year. And with applications for the Autumn delivery window closing next month, the Trust is urging people to take advantage of the ‘no-catch’ scheme and help tackle the climate and nature crisis. The spring delivery in March 2024 saw 26,995 saplings finding homes in the South of England, as part of a total 365,985 trees sent out across the length and breadth of the UK. On the Isle of Wight, 1,515 trees were delivered. Applications for delivery in September 2024 are closing on 26th August. Steve Shill, Senior Project Lead for the Woodland Trust, says:
“Planting trees is such a simple action, but the collective impact can make a huge difference to people and the planet. “Trees help nature, combat flooding, provide shelter and reduce pollution. And they unite communities, inspire pride and bring huge benefits for mental wellbeing. “It’s a great way for schoolchildren and all sorts of community groups – from sports clubs to faith groups – to learn about the environment and do their bit. “Every school should have trees, but if you don’t have space to plant, don’t worry – you can still get involved in planting. Why not partner with a local community group or council to plant trees in a public space?

Voting Reform would have achieved far more greater benefits for our green agenda , as limits on arrivals would leave more green fields, woods and less demand on energy, water, sewage, congested roads, food consumption and land fill than the noble supply of thousands of trees for, in reality, few will ever be free to grow to maturity.
Bembridge had Stene Park planted with scores of trees by school children, my boy being one of them, all for the late Queens Green Canopy. None or few had survived at our last visit.
See the real threat to our country today and curable without one current citizen in the UK being affected. Best try thinking before, not after voting next time.
Whether you like it or not, the voters rejected Deform. They don’t believe our country would be some sort of utopia had Deform one and probably didn’t agree with their one topic agenda.
And your comment has a completely tenuous link to the free trees topic too.
The ‘Link’ has, to unbiased minded people , been well explained and is fully justifiable.
The planting of a tree , calculating the amount of CO2 then multiplied by the number of trees handed out is tenuous, as most all will not reach maturity.
Yet just ONE family illegally arriving will, in their lifetime, WITHOUT calculating infinite offspring from them will be staggering in the ‘Green harm’ they create, see why in above irrelevant’ post, THINK and vote Reform next time.
