The Isle of Wight Council will be celebrating Isle of Wight Day by proudly flying bunting from many of its buildings and also providing free car parking in some areas to encourage people to visit their local towns to take part in events and support local businesses.
County Hall in Newport; Dinosaur Isle in Sandown; Cowes Floating Bridge; council-run libraries and leisure centres across the Island will all be festooned with bunting, along with Newport Fire Station, which will also be flying the Isle of Wight flag from the top of its training tower on Saturday 24th September.
Cowes and Newport libraries will be holding Isle of Wight Day events with a quiz taking place throughout the day at Lord Louis Library and a special Isle of Wight themed children’s Lego club taking place in Cowes between 10:30 and 12:30. Refreshments will be available courtesy of the Supporters of Cowes Library Group between 10:00 and 14:00.
Councillor Jonathan Bacon, Leader of the Isle of Wight Council, said:
“I know that residents are immensely proud of the Isle of Wight so it is right that there is a day dedicated to celebrating the wonderful place in which we live.
