Singer Dame Vera Lynn, who kept morale up during World War II, has died at the age of 103.
Known as the forces’ sweetheart, Dame Vera kept the nation’s spirits high during the war, including the spirits of those fighting on the frontline.
The entertainer is most famously known for her wartime song ‘We’ll meet again’.
Dame Vera turned 103 back in March and was able to celebrate the VE 75 celebrations last month.
In a statement issued today, the family have said:
“The family are deeply saddened to announce the passing of one of Britain’s best-loved entertainers at the age of 103.
“Dame Vera Lynn, who lived in Ditchling, East Sussex, passed away earlier today, 18 June 2020, surrounded by her close family.”
