Firefighters from Ryde, Newport and Shanklin are working to assist a horse that has fallen in a field near Haylands in Ryde this morning (Friday).
Working alongside a local vet, crews are preparing to use specialist animal rescue equipment to move the animal from its current position.
The incident has occurred in a field off Ashey Road.
1 fire appliance from Ryde was mobilised to the scene at around 10:00, with a Land Rover from Shanklin and the Animal Rescue Unit from Newport subsequently tipped out.
Rescue efforts remain ongoing at this time.
UPDATE @ 13:33 – Standing down at around midday, the fire service left the animal in the care of the vet and the horse’s owner.

hope the poor horse is ok, thank you to everyone who help him/her get to their feet.
I cannot be sure of the date, but I think it was around 1968 / 69 back when I was a fire fighter in the Bembridge station, we had a shout to a horse that was stuck in the mud. I really do mean, stuck. It was well in. But after a few hours of very careful digging and gentle pulling, we managed to get the horse out. It did recover from it’s ordeal with plenty of love and care, which was not in short supply. We were knackered at the end and needed a good hosing off. It is surprising the amount of horses that get themselves stuck in mud. I think that owners of these lovely and expensive animals should take more care in where they let these animals graze or move around. It’s not rocket science.
