Firefighters from the Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service were called to reports of a dog stuck in a ditch during the early hours of this morning (Wednesday).
Crews from Newport Fire Station were mobilised following a 999 call made by the owner reporting their dog had got into a predicament.
The alarm was raised sometime around 01:30.
The 17-year-old Terrier, which is said to be partially blind, was successfully and swiftly rescued by Green Watch and the companion has now been reunited with its grateful owner.
A spokesperson from fire control said:
“Crews from Newport IOW Green Watch rescued an elderly (17 yr old) terrier dog (partially blind) from a ditch in the early hours of this morning and reunited it with its very grateful owner.”

Only ONE crew sent?
A lovely ending, and truly happy they responded as they did.
So nice that people care, for IF you phone the RSPCA it is a nightmare to get through and all mainland based so unless you have a postcode, which a field in the middle of nowhere doesn’t it is hard to explain where an animal in distress actually is.
Needs a local number with security to talk to the local RSPCA officer directly.
Well done to the fire crew, really good to know they are there for our furry friends as well as humans, thank you.
