Fire crews from across the Island are tackling a property fire in a converted barn in Seaview this afternoon (Friday).
5 pumping appliances from Newport, Ryde, Sandown and Cowes are in attendance at the scene on Oakhill Road, as well as an aerial ladder platform from Ryde and a water carrier from Freshwater.
Firefighters equipped with breathing apparatus are using hose reel jets to extinguish the blaze, which started in the residential property at around 14:45.
The road is currently blocked outside Urban Saints with traffic having to divert locally via Puckpool or Nettlestone.
It is unclear as to how the fire started but it appears that fire crews have got a hold of the situation, although damage to the roof is evident.
Appliances from the mainland are making their way to the Island to ensure adequate fire cover.
UPDATE @ 16:46 – It has been confirmed that 4 breathing apparatus and 2 hose reel jets have been used to extinguish the fire, which began in a garage and spread to the roof of the converted barn.
UPDATE @ 20:05 – The fire has been extinguished and crews have now left the scene.
Appliances from Freshwater and Cotton (in Southampton) were on standby at Ryde, but have now returned to their home stations.

Likely a vehicle caught fire in the barn or something. Looks to be outed now thank goodness.
Good job sherlock.
You will be called upon again in the future
Well done Anya Wright for quick thinking and calling 999. Outcome could have been very different!
As St. Patrick’s Day approaches it’s nice to see even Seaview property owners being a bit Irish… Normally these charming old barns ‘catch fire’ before being converted to mind-bogglingly expensive holiday homes, not after.
