Firefighters from Shanklin and Ryde have been mobilised to a domestic property fire in Chale this afternoon (Wednesday).
2 appliances are currently en-route to Corve Lane, where smoke is reported to be filling the living room of a house.
The Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service were called at 13:27 by a concerned member of the public who was passing the property.
UPDATE @ 14:50 – It has been confirmed that a small fire was located in the living room of the property, but this was quickly extinguished with a bucket of water.
Logs near to a burner sparked the alert. They have since been removed from the property.
Crews have now stood down and returned to station.

As most shouts, a costly sledgehammer to crack a nut.
It takes anything up to 20 mins for an appliance to get to the Chale area, what seems like a small fire to you could turn into a bloody inferno in that time possibly with people inside that’s why a minimum of 2 appliances are sent to any confirmed property fire. You need a minimum number of people there to have safe working practices, lets hope you never have one you brave keyboard warrior.
You mean, using a service for what it’s meant for? Hopefully one day your house starts to smoke and noone thinks about trying to get help and it just burns down to the ground with all your personal belongings etc in it.
I understand your points, yet truly wonder IF the home owner had to pay for the vast amount of crew and appliances used for each shout, out of their OWN money, then would they be ‘so’ keen then?
Whilst a fire can turn into an inferno, it can equally and likely far, far more often be dealt with as this one was.
Years ago, when homes had paraffin fires, oil lamps, candles, flammable soft seating etc, one could imagine many homes burning, yet now most have smoke detectors and limited burnability.
Can’t help thinking it is all ‘over done’ for a ‘just in case’ scenario.
Try getting medical attention, and your are told to wait days, yet mention a whiff of smoke and half the brigade are on your doorstep.
Either they are very caring, or paid for each shout they attend.
Aziz, you really are one!
As i have mentioned many times always a minimum of two appliances sent for no reason.
What a waste of money!!
Each pump normally rides with 5 so 2 pumps 10 people 1 officer, 1 pump op. 2 BA and another 2 BA emergency team 1 Entry control officer, 1 to collect water from hydrant. As you can see this is more that 5 hence why 2 pumps are always needed. In rural areas like chale hydrants can be some distance away. Each pump only carriers 175m of hose if your further than this from a hydrant you need more hose hence always 2 pumps. If your house was burning down and you were told sorry we only sent 1 pump as were saving money what would you say???? Oh it’s OK don’t worry i fully understand. You can’t put a price on life I’m afraid. Plus you ask anyone in the retained service why they are in the service. And 100% will say to protect the community the serve nothing to do with the money.
