UPDATED: The Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service and HM Coastguard are in attendance at a house boat on Bembridge’s Embankment Road this afternoon (Wednesday).

2 fire appliances from Ryde are on scene at Selwyn Pontoon following reports of a possible fire on board ‘Ocean Reward’.

Both appliances were mobilised to the scene at just before 14:00, shortly followed by Bembridge Coastguard Rescue Team.

Firefighters have donned breathing apparatus in preparation of boarding the boat to tackle the fire, however the fire has already been extinguished. It is thought a heater or similar caught alight, prompting the 999 call to the fire service.

The road remains open as normal in both directions.

UPDATE @ 14:35 – 1 fire appliance has now stood down and returned to station as IWFRS concludes the incident.

No one is thought to have been injured.

UPDATE @ 15:10 – Emergency services have now left the scene.
