3 fire appliances from Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service are attending an alert at a care home in Ryde this afternoon (Thursday).
Crews from Newport and Ryde are on scene at Highfield Nursing Home on Queens Road. The Incident Command Unit from Newport is also in attendance.
Firefighters have donned breathing apparatus but there are no signs of fire and no evacuation has taken place.
UPDATE @ 15:45 – It has been confirmed that a tumble dryer fire within the building’s laundry room sparked the alert, but it was out upon the arrival of fire crews.
No one has been injured.
1 appliance and the Incident Command Unit have been stood down from the incident, with just 2 appliances remaining on scene.
It comes just over 24 hours after a similar call out to The Adelaide in Ryde, which was sparked by smoke issuing from electrics.

things is a must in care homes never leave a gas hob on the go and pop out for a fag. Never leave a tumble dryer when it’s on the go. Don’t turn off a tumble dryer in mid cycle. As heat will and can ignite. It happens so switch on.
I presume that you are a resident.
Ask the staff for some more tablets.
